As part of the 2026 Dream Cruise weekend, Ford Motor Co. announced the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible from Ford Racing can be ordered starting in fall 2026. It arrives in dealer showrooms beginning in spring 2027.

The first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013 features ample headroom and zero barriers with the top down, allowing drivers to hear the sound of its 795 horsepower, supercharged 5.2-liter V-8.

“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing. “It’s just pure fun, fast, freedom.”

Starting with the Mustang GT 5.0-liter V-8 convertible’s architecture, Ford Racing engineers have added a strong, lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine to help handle the power of the Dark Horse SC convertible’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8.

The reinforcement is paired with a specially tuned, next-generation MagneRide suspension, delivering what officials describe as “a smooth, comfortable ride when cruising and a firmly planted feel the moment you lean into the accelerator.”

“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”

The V-8 engine includes a fast-shifting, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With its unique sound, prominent stance, and new color options — including Precision Purple exterior paint, unique brake caliper color, and interior details available in Black Onyx and Space Gray — the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible is designed to make a statement.

“We are giving a new generation of drivers a premium, high-performance street machine that is just as fun to be seen in as it is to drive,” said Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford Mustang brand marketing manager.

SC stands for supercharged. Pricing information has yet to be released. The manufacturer reports cited horsepower and torque ratings based on premium fuel per SAE J1349 standard. Results may vary.
